Beth And Mick Poem by Francis Duggan

Beth And Mick

Someone asked Beth is Mick on holidays she shook her head
He has been on holidays for years she said
He has not worked for pay since in his physical prime
And this is going back ten years in time

He has not worked for pay since his mental breakdown
Perhaps he will die as one of the unemployed of the town
He works but for his time does not receive pay
As a volunteer for the S P C A

Tim our only child a teenager in secondary school
Just like his dad far from a fool
If luck stays with him a successful future he will enjoy
I feel so proud of him he is such a clever boy

Mick was an engineer until he became mentally sick
In the life of any human being fortune can change quick
He loves and treats me well as a man should treat his wife
And he remains as the great love of my life

Beth of her husband Mick does feel so proud
She always does sing his praises loud
Lets hope life is not so unkind to our son Tim
We both do feel so very proud of him.
