A nod, a blink, a look exchanged
Can reveal a betrayal heartrending,
No words need to be spoken
To break a trust beyond mending.
Of strangers, foes and colleagues,
We are naturally cautious,
But with friends, lovers and family
We lay down our defences.
A sneak attack, a shove in the back,
A sharp knife in the gut surprises,
And breaks the heart to pieces,
To never be whole again.
