Between You And Me (Free Verse Sonnet) Poem by Gert Strydom

Between you and me years do lie
with the times of our lives
as heroic deeds and victories,
also defeats and pain
and in this history there is love
the inside knowledge, trust and comprehension,
the simple and complicated concepts
between a man and woman that do love each other
and far too long we have both been alone
where together we become an impenetrable fortress
but in these things the beautiful memories do remain
of that which love is and still can become
although everything around us is in unstoppable crumbling
as love is an eternal gift from God.
