Beware - Poem by Matthew Edward Peterson

Beware the average man
and their encouragement
for it reeks of fear and doubt
so strongly as to tear away everything
you hold dear

for in their help you'll find disdain
and broken memories

listen to no one but the person
who is honest yet encouraging
without the thought of saying
your dreams are unreachable

beware the spider
for their web is a tangled mess

beware your friends
for some would rather keep you
than see you succeed

beware the fearful
for they cannot move without doubt

beware the follower
for their life is governed
and they lack the will to lead themselves

beware god
for you must give your life
and give up free will
for a heaven in which no man
has ever seen

beware your lust of money
for it can, most easily
take you away from yourself
driving your life for itself
and not for your heart

beware the nay sayers
for they will try to guide you
based on their own fears

and last of all

beware any man
who has said it wasn't possible
that your dreams aren't possible
that you fly too high
and that you need to obey

but have pity for them

for their advice is based on their reality
and what they believe
beware this man more than anything
for they will crush your spirit
from their lack of love for themselves

but before you walk away
look back
and say
