Black Poem by nicola burkett

Black

A dead end to my left
A black hole to my right
Turning the page
In the middle of the night
Beneath the blackened sky
The pain that I feel
While others go by
I’m left standing still
My body in water
I fell broken down
I don’t want to leave
I don’t want to drown
My worst nightmares
And falling salt tears
The screams that have echoed
Throughout the years
My soul feels heavy
With the lies that you tell
The secrets you hide
I know you too well
The lost little girl
That resides deep in me
Is suffocating inside
She needs to be free
The lessons I learn
From the voices inside
Help to rebuild
My broken down pride
