Black Crowned Night Heron - Lincoln Park Zoo Poem by Ima Ryma

Black Crowned Night Heron - Lincoln Park Zoo

The black crowned night heron - now that's
A mouthful for humans to say.
We like to live in wetland flats.
Lincoln Park Zoo - great place to stay.
I'm just a youngster not long hatched.
How 'bout those orange eyes - so awesome!
I got two of them, nicely matched,
To watch what's going to and from.
I am a night bird, all about
The fun and food that's happening.
During the day I try stay out
Of humans' goofy ways they bring.

Endangered here in Illinois,
I bring the Zoo a little joy.
