Blank Stare Poem by Mysia Hayling

Blank Stare

Rating: 5.0

I feel so helpless when I look into your eyes.
It pierces my heart with so much pain.
Knowing you'll never be the same.
I stare deep into your eyes,
Hoping that you'll know who's there.
My name I long to hear.

My eyes are filled with tears,
Thinking back over the past years.
O how your state of mind heightens my fears.
It can transcend through the blood and we can suffer the same.
We have no one to blame. Once a man twice a child that is the game,
the power all lies in the brain.
I ask the question, do you remember me over and over again.

Your body is so fragile like a newborn; and you are like a Rose among thorns.
You fail to know what is wrong because your mind is no longer strong.
If you had a choice you will not have accepted this condition.
Your mind has let you down, only the ones who truly care comes around.
True love is not easily found. My heart bleeds to see what old age has done,
The man I once knew now is gone.

Dedicated to my father who has the Alzheimer's disease.
