Blatant Dismissals Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Blatant Dismissals

Thoughtlessness accepted.
With a disrespect to expect.
A dignity and identity,
Yet perceived to be arrogant.
By those not so proud,
Of their heritage and ethnicity.
To proclaim themselves blessed,
As a gift to get.

Although...
For those who know and accept,
Having no regrets to express,
When confronted by opposition.
To become immediately addressed.

And...
Coming to hear heard,
On a daily basis.
Done everywhere to remain,
Made to make known.
Shown to anyone living to condone,
Earning to learn loving who they are.
Done not to happen for them overnight.
Without doubts to have.
Or if they should feel upset.
Offended or uptight.
To be criticized and disliked,
For daring to be themselves.
Despite who might disapprove.

"You know...
I dislike the way you talk.
And walk as if you think,
You are all of 'THAT' and more."

-Thank you,
For bringing...
Those 'imperfections' to my attention.
Glad I am them you mentioned.
Tell me,
Are they too much?
Or not enough?
Is this your critique?
I am always open for improvement.-

"You are 'suppose' to feel offended."

-Why?
You obviously know better than me,
How I can become 'THAT' and more.
Done the way you have achieved.-
