Blindless Poem by Dakota Ellerton

Blindless

Through my eyes,
I see not a man
but a boy too young
forced to plan

Facial hair, and muscles show
but do not mean he's ready
the choices and words that he had chosen
tells me he's not steady

No one I have ever met
has worn a mask so well
the saddest part of this boys tale
is only one could tell

Worried that he won't be strong enough
to hold up the crumbling wall
I'd pick that boy right back up
before he starts to fall

A loving heart is hard to see
with a world so shallow as this
rib cages and popping bones
these things I dare not kiss

This boy has made some harsh mistakes
and in the way I stood
but I'd never toss a life away
I don't believe I should

In his hands I see the pain
he's carried all these years
In his eyes I see his soul
blinded by his fears

From his legs to his arms
shoulders to his back
this boy has been built
perfectly intact

Through his chest
his heart would beat
echo in my ear
shivers to my feet

Spreading a smile can be a challenge
unless you know him well
a real smile takes some time
pull him from his shell

Oh, how I wish this boy could see
what I see every day
how I wish he'd catch a break
without a single pay

If not one thing
it'd be another
to take responsibilities
to take care of his mother

Don't get yourself down
over what you can not change
events may come regardless
but the order re-arranged

Through my eyes
I look and see
the things you are
the man you'll be

Never will I just walk away
never will I leave
this growing weight upon your shoulders
alone you will not heave

Through the tides of thick and thin
pull and push we will
get knotted at eachothers throats
lay there and be still

Love is something that takes on forms
with many different names
it leads to hate and painful guilts
it's nothing but a game

If you are what you say
then I must be blinded too
because I'd never love a cruel thing
you claim to have a hold of you

Maybe we just need to peek
at what we've really got
appreciate the things we've learned
and the lessons that we've taught

Through my glasses
what I see
is loving man
I know you'll be
