Soul To Soul Poem by Melody McKinstrie

Soul To Soul

Rating: 5.0

A friend said civilization is ending.
Brick by brick.
Life by life.
Soul by soul.

I responded "Not my soul."
My soul will always be within
Until it soars with the other spirits.
It will never be among those
Wishing evil upon others,
But it will wish for understanding.

How can I know this?
How can I be sure?
I know that my heart and mind
Are not for sale.
They know what is right.
That is reverence for life
Of every human being.
That is reverence for life
All life that is on this planet
Even my enemies
Who wish evil upon me
Will get my empathy
I will try to turn the other cheek.
Some may call this a Christian philosophy.
I call it treating others
As I would like to be treated.

Finite days.
In our bodies.
They are but the vessels.
Our souls may live on.
Where will they dwell?
They will be in the heart's
And mind's of our loved ones.
They will be in actions
That we have paid forward.
They will be in smiles
Passed from one to another.
They will be in the kindness
Of strangers.

Do you not see what I am telling you?
That from our actions today
Doing unto others
As we would like to be done unto
Is what will make a stranger's day.
In turn a stranger does the same,
And so on and so forth.
A chain reaction of sorts.
If my soul is such a source.
How about yours?
