The recent heavy fall of snow lay upon the ground
Windswept and heaped onto high mound
Though cold, the sun warm enough to give slight melt
Giving the scene an icy glistening ragged felt
A small lighthouse at the end of Bond Head Point
Appeared lone, snow covered, the purpose disjoint
Its command though, unseen on such a bright day
Will alert passing night craft with its light warning ray
The narrow slipway was almost still and unmoving
Its surface half frozen, geese wading and waddling
They sat in large groups upon the disturbed snow
Very still or cleaning feathers, nowhere to go
The Canadian Geese seemed lost and out of place
A few rise, have short flight, but nothing to chase
Return to nestle on the snowy uneven lower banks
Till two arise and jostle in playful pointless pranks
All else around is very calm and quiet
A few cars linger, viewing scene from car park
The waters of Lake Ontario are gentle and blue
Reflecting the clear sky above with deeper hue
Waves softly brush against the outer icy higher banks
A fine spray of lake water rises and decamps
While a dozen geese have settled on gentle wavelets
Each bird perhaps seeking to catch tasty tidbits
The now becalmed atmosphere around Bond Head
Gives for the impression of stillness outspread
With leafless trees and masts of wintered marine craft
Makes stark outline from glowing sun behind their draught.
As the sun dips lower and the day must surely yield
Shadows appear longer, creeping over the far-off field
Geese are becoming restless, retreating to their bed
It is time to depart from the serene scene of Bond Head
