Bottled Up - Poem by Andy Brookes

Love escaped,
died cold,
years ago.

not required
sliding,
despairingly stark,
into empty bottles,

iron nights turned
distraught.
times darkened
stars shone bleak.

the giant roared
glass shattered.
eyes, once blue
turned black.

unforgettable feeling
memories a photographic hurt,
where we smile as a family,
until drink,
turned dad to monster,
mum to religion.

traumatised we
kids lying in-between.
living in the dark,
unpicturesque ashes
of our once happy home.
