Breakfast Of Champions Poem by Juan Olivarez

Breakfast Of Champions

Rating: 4.8

The menudo's almost ready,
There's a growling in the pit.
Corn tortillas, onions and chiles,
Ain't nobody gonna split.

Big bright eyes around the table,
mouths watering fast.
Waiting making them unstable,
For a spicy hot repast.

Serve it up in steaming bowls,
Cures hangovers and the cramps.
A little comfort for your souls,
Truly a breakfast of champs.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
To some of my friends that do not know what menudo is. It is a spicy hot soup made out of beef tripe, with hominy, lots of red pepper spice, and oregano. After it is served you can add fresh jalapeno peppers, onions, and cilantro. It is eaten with corn tortillas and is absolutely delicious. And it also cures hangovers and lots of other ailments. But mainly hangovers. lol.
