bite by bite by the sheer loss of earth.


2.

In silver wheels Farnsworth rolled
until his soul cost more than his millions.


3.

When rats ate his paper windows, Odie felt
his bludgeoned soul decry the pain of poverty.


4.

At ninety-eight, Elizabeth the bread maker
had broken her share. Pundits applauded.


5.

Cradling the sky, Horace put his thumb
through a dipper of stars.
