British Titles Poem by gershon hepner

British Titles

Using titles given by a monarch
when played or playing in the Philharmonic
shows great respect to those who have been knighted,
and without titles would feel slightly slighted.
So stick to Benjamin, Lord Britten, and
the Sir that Solti richly once deserved,
and Dame for Kiri, who, we understand,
by titles like high notes was not unnerved.

Let us therefore keep a cool composure
regarding titled Brits, and praise the compositions
of those whose titles call for full disclosure,
bestowed on them for being great musicians.
A rose by any other name would smell
as sweet, and those with British titles cast,
with music that they write or play, a spell
that with their music should be simulcast.

On July 11,2007, Dennis Bartel asked the listeners of KUSC whether they approved of the use of titles of musicians whose compositions or performances are broadcast on the station.
