Brodsky Became A Calvinist Poem by Liza Sud

Brodsky Became A Calvinist

Brodsky became a Calvinist
after Marina Tsvetaeva.
And she said: 'The whole Russia is
not worthy of my rough verse draft'.

Was their talk about countries?
About earthly faith wars? -
No, he succumbed to her powers
When he baptized - in her!

To her straight and imposing
lasers from every line.
May you become like Brodsky,
and even higher than!

She got a small compensation
Joseph gave her after death -
a rose for her perfection
and God's tremendous grace.

****

I'm unclear about the chronology of Brodsky and Tsvetaeva. being friends (?) Is this poem a metaphorical? Did the two of them really meet? What a meeting of hearts and minds that was!
