Bruce And Me Poem by Juan Olivarez

Bruce And Me

Rating: 4.8

The blazing orb in the sky overhead
Drains you of life, till you wish you were dead.
The land is so barren deadly and lean
And danger is everywhere mostly unseen.

It's the mojave and it's earned it's name
A name full of infamy torture and pain.
Scorpions, tarantulas, sidewinding snakes,
They're all around you as the sandy waste bakes.

Into this mighty inhospitable clime,
Two walk in the distance, just passing the time.
Bruce and me know every stone
Every wash every canyon always alone.

We walk in the desert for reasons you see,
As different from each other, as bruce is from me.
I walk to remember, I walk to forget.
Bruce marks all the bushes and chases the jacks.

My one true companion, my one only friend,
Passing the time, till we're home again
Bruce and me are walking back to the house,
If I can get him away from that hole with the mouse.

4/19/10 29 palms ca.

I laughed out loud when I read that last line!
