Brutal Mirror Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Brutal Mirror

Brutal Mirror

Love talking in silence
With the books and papers
Squeezed in the shelves!

I read of Taliban
Being wild, brutal!

They whip the Men, Women
Hang bodies in city squares!

Remember tons of names
Colonists, their victims,
Mestizos and Metis
Born to the raped mothers!

I think of lakes, rivers,
Full of fish and beavers,
Then arrive Europeans,
Buffalo, exterminates…

Words become the photos
Of the heads on the poles,
Thanks to kings, Creoles!

Reflections of Europe
Appear in the mirrors.

Amaru, Catari, Katari
Are killed by Spanish!

Cannot find exception,
Swedish, Hollanders,
To Brits and French,
To Germans, Portugal,
Norwegians to Denmark,
Catholics and Romans
To Greece, Vatican…

Wonder why we see just
The muftis and mullahs
Of Kabul and Tehran!
