Buyer, Beware Poem by Can I Live?

Buyer, Beware

I can't read you
Like I read my books
And it frustrates me so
To know
That you may not feel
The way I think you do

I read your actions
And I hear your words
As if they were the lies
On a seductive Satan's tongue
Reeling me in
Anticipating the deceit

What you are thinking
When you are with me?
Can I ever truly know how you feel?
And how do I tell
What my mind makes up
And what is real?

I'm so afraid
Of feeling exposed
That if you find out
The truth about our friendship
Everything will be off
All my clothes

My mask,
the one I wear each day
My armor
the kind I use to hide away
My paint
the stuff that covers up my pain

I'm giving you permission
To keep me.....
I'm telling you now
That when I need you
You had better be there
Buyer of this heart, beware
