By this silent tree I stood
Watched the river move
Watched the leaves and twigs
Heard the ducks and geese chatter
Wondered if the tree ever spoke
Or watched, and gazed amazed.
By this silent tree I stood
It was my shadow that day
It was my body and my mind
But it was wonder I came to find.
I shed some tears and let them drip
In the river and the boughs
Left them in the river
Thoughts and dreams and silver
