Can I Ever Be Free Poem by Jennifer Birchall

Can I Ever Be Free

My past smothers me
Bound down in darkness
Stuck within a hidden cave
Boulders, rocks and stones confine me
If I remove a stone
The smallest I can manage
One by one
Will I eventually find strength to pick a rock?
