Can I Live A Life Of Humility? Poem by Mohammad Younus

Can I Live A Life Of Humility?

Can I live a life of humility,
Freed despite the overlords,
Joyous in spite of sorrows,
Love all in spite of hatred?
O my God! The truth of all!
I praise you—without you
Nothing remains within—
Only you exist.

The murky river of sin,
Dead and swift, it courses—
Through my veins,
Jaggedly gnashing my fragile frame.
Only your pure water of life, I pray,
Runs constantly through my veins.

The gentle hand, firm and steady,
Gripping firmly, yanked me out.
All I had to say was 'You're right, '
And the truth surged from inside.

The less I am, the more you are.
So take my life to yours,
Within your embrace, hide me please.
Thank you, Lord, you're holding me tight.
