Canada O Canada
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
Canada wears the skirt of time
And the blouse of destiny
The folds of the skirt
Are for the running years
And the cut and fit of the blouse
Is its place in the world;
Canada is the quintessence of W. Wordsworth's The Solitary Reaper
For she stands alone on the world stage
"Reaping and singing by herself"
For a good harvest is the test of time;
From dawn to dusk
Do Canadians work
And to Canada's viewers
They are like W. Wordsworth's Daffodils
Golden in nature
And brimming with happiness
"Fluttering and dancing in the breeze";
As in James McIntyre's A Romance of Canada
John Roe collects maple syrup from maple trees
And Jane, his wife, bakes bread
So do Canadians romance Canada;
William Wilfred Campbell's Spring in Canada
Speaks of LOVE in the springtime
Amidst the budding flowers
And Canada says, Love is all we need.
