Canonized Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Canonized

Canonized

He shouted crazy:
'I want match for burning.'

Ears sharp
Everyone surprised
Neighbors' looks: "He was wise."
Someone cared; when saw rushed.

In center of his house a mountain of the books and he danced.
'They are junk; I read them; waste of time.
They must go; forever out of sight.'

Mouths open; jaws fallen
Eyes were deep; wells and seas
'Professor, '
Someone called:
'Just one word, '
Jumped over:
'Will you please...? '
Not yet reached match stroke
Oil, papers and spark turned flames.

Red, yellow, violet
And smoke
Papers turned, corners fold
Hard covers with pictures
Acropolis, Persepolis, Pyramids, China's Wall
All burned down
'They are lies...'
Kept laughing crazy; the old man:
'History is a lie...'
'But you taught...'
'Look at the Washington, Kremlin and London, all over...'
'Professor...'
'The Bible, Shakespeare, everything is approved...'
'Canonized? '
'Yes of course! '
'Is this why they are lies? They're screened to the bone...am I right? '
