Capital Square Poem by Josh Bashline

Capital Square

The night before,
destruction imminent,
clear skies,
light breeze after a cool drizzle throughout the early evening.
No sirens over crowding Capital Square,
peace and silence remain tranquil throughout the hours past and future.
Lonely people find happy company once this night,
loved ones continue to love,
Gods are praised within light colored walls,
smiles and tears are shared across the room,
all is quiet yet not well.
For the morning will bring the burning sun,
crowded streets and overpopulated walkways,
trees will turn vulgar and plain,
leaving people to criticize and take advantage.
The cycle will continue,
dew will settle on grassy fields and unaware cars,
the sun will parish leaving dark happiness and cool clear skies,
nothing will be heard but the shutting of doors when the work day is done.
