Death Letter Poem by Josh Bashline

Death Letter

My love.
Let the sun shine down and warm us with your smile,
And the moon glow in the night sky with your beauty.
If ever you question my love for you,
Look to our little girls.
Let their baby blue eyes and gentle touch lead your thoughts to a happier place.

Never let your heart worry for mine.
For I am always with you.
I cry tonight,
thinking of you and the girls.
Though I miss you all very badly,
I cry in joy, thinking of all of the years I have shared with you.
Thinking why I couldn’t be a better husband,
a better father to our baby girls.

Although I am proud to serve my country,
I would much rather die for you.
I write to you in my absence.
for I have chosen my path.
Regretfully enough it is my last.
I’m coming home real soon baby,
And even though I won’t be able to kiss you or hold my little girls in my arms,
I will be with you.
Tonight my love,
When the sun goes down and the moon comes up,
Look to the stars for comfort.
Know I am looking down on you as you look up at me.

I love you more than anything.
Make sure my little girls know their father died a proud man.
And make sure you give them a kiss goodnight for daddy.
