Captive Poem by Richard Theze

Captive

The bird,
Mute,
Perched behind
Prison bars,
Self-forged,
Mindfully shut up,

Caged
In faultless cell,
Compromising never,
Nor ever offering
The hope of flight
On floundering wings.

For, where
In this world
Could she
Ever fly?
