Care Poem by Charles Chaim Wax

Care

Rating: 4.5

What can I say
When he calls
To tell me
From the hospital
He’s still alive
“Great, ” I whisper
Wanting eloquence
Or solemnity
Or inspiration.
Then he puts his wife
On the phone
And she cries
Without respite
Until I hear him moan
At the distant end of the phone,
'Enough.'
