Carl Nielsen's Sun Piece

As Helios began to rise
Fat woman rose to feet,
Shuffled out for air:
Fiddledy fie for the trains of thought
Of people listening there.

'Well thought, ' thought I,
'to leave the theatre now-
though quiet rise disturbed;
'cause if she'd left it till the sun
was higher in the sky,
she might have fallen in a faint-
whole auditorium perturbed! '

Then, as the sun began to set,
As she set down in her seat,
Ungummed from mama's oozing teat,
Arose the song of baby son-
Dread herald of the treat to come
In Tchaikovsky
Piano Concerto
Number One.

Inspired in Greece the 15 minute piece 'Helios' begins with a quiet build-up to the rising of the sun, gets more agitated as day progresses, then returns to quiet after a spectacular sunset.

This is terrific and richer for your kind explanation to enhance the piece. I am also reminded of John Donne - The Sun Rising, in content and contemp of that near star.

(cont.) the last stanza sounds like a Poet's Notes, but it is nice to have nearer to the poem, as you've placed it; or is it part of the poem, i wonder. there are a lot of photos of the composer online, including some that are, i think are of him making very strange faces at the camera in his youth! to MyPoemList...once i understood it. bri :)

(cont.) ah, yes: i heard (YEARS AGO) maybe in a kids' story/rhyme: Fiddledeedee is defined as nonsense. When someone says something that you think is nonsense or utter foolishness, this is an example of a time when you might say Fiddledeedee. maybe a difference between Am. English and Br. English. : ( (cont.)

(cont.) maybe Fat women, not woman? a woman with breastfeeding babe? or are there two women? yes, i think one and an A or The in front of fat would be nice, but...'poetic' license is yours! Fiddledy fie? this sounds to me somewhat familiar, but? fie interjection ....used to express disgust or disapproval (cont.)

(cont.) & Nielsen maintained the reputation of an outsider during his lifetime, both in his own country and internationally. It was only later that his works firmly entered the international repertoire, accelerating in popularity from the 1960s through Leonard Bernstein and others. (cont.)
