Catching Fingerlings At A Neighbor's Pond Poem by Melanie Emikohe

Catching Fingerlings At A Neighbor's Pond

Swift fingerlings evade the bucket
they scoot, hide under the lilies

How they tease me - resurfacing
to viewpoint, as if I could
scoop them with my small hands

But they always get away

So I end up
filling the bucket with pond water
and cordial tadpoles
