Catching Reds Poem by Juan Olivarez

Catching Reds

Down to Port Mansfield, I went today,
Casting from the pier into the bay.
Caught me a monster of a red fish,
I guess someone up there, heard my wish.

I had to throw her back again,
She was way too big, and I'm not insane.
Breeders can't be taken, at any time,
And it's considered a serious crime.

I caught two more, and those were mine.
Big and fat and oh so fine.
Catching redfish what a thrill,
I never seem to get my fill.
