Catching Wisps Poem by Aron Heroux

Catching Wisps

Rating: 5.0

In a grassen field
a wild wind blew
I roamed from knoll to knoll
looking for you
Whisps floated on
a perfumed breeze
I'd reach out and grasp
and catch them with ease
I'd open my palm
and look down to see
that what once flew free
was now a crushed knot of seeds
Again and again I'd try
to catch one in my hand
But either I'd destroy them
or they'd slip through like sand
With fury I'd shout
at the wind and the sky
It's impossible I'd say,
alone I must die
Defeated I'd slump
on a solitary mound
Crushed as the flowers
that fell to the ground
I closed my eyes
and sleep came fast
I opened them to find
that little time passed
for the sun was still high
and I, still alone
except for a single wisp
that while I slept had blown
onto my hand that
I did not close
