Changing Poem by Joshua Mapp

Changing

Rating: 4.5

Lying on the grass under the pre-dawn sky
Where stars still pulse their existence.
The wind chimes alive in song
Hanging from the porch I helped build.
Delicious sighs stumbling out from behind your melodious lips
As your chest rises and falls with each breath
You take in from the morning air.

Golden brown is the color of your soft yielding skin,
And I trace above your navel with my fingertips
As if they were a dancers’ feet
Fluttering along an open stage.

One single blanket keeps us from melding with the naked nature around us.
My dancing fingers find their way to the greenish-yellow stem
Jutting out of place from your auburn hair
Seemingly ablaze with the coming sun.
Your malachite globes reflect the green of the lawn,
The shades in the blades of grass become the flecks in your eyes.
You shift under my gaze, and the warmth of your thigh against mine remind me of

Our nakedness.

Leaning up you kiss the air out of my drumming chest,
And I fall into you unaware of the life waking around us.
The stars fade from sight, the grass becomes sheets,
You become me
Then I become you
And we are just I.
