The Night Shoe Poem by Joshua Mapp

The Night Shoe

Rating: 5.0

I thought as I said “You do when you want to”
You’d look with a sneaky smile and I would say
“You think so? ”
Or was I not as once but true
To what I could be or was I just?
In that moment a grin would emerge behind
The “I’m not too sure” glance and you or I would
Join in the laugh.
That moment passed and the night air
Kicked the leaves in motion
To play that –For My Only– dance outside.
I stood in shoe imprinted carpet waiting,
You walked away when I shouldn’t have stayed
