Charles Dickens And The Covid-19 Virus

Charles Dickens and the COVID-19 virus
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
After having made my last piece of poetical composition,
I find that I have nothing to say that is of remarkable note in literary circles
Let it be noted that I am the author of fine analysis of William Shakespeare's figures of speech
In his play, Love's Labours Lost
And have done this for half the long play and it is on Linked In;

I tried to read Pickwick Papers and woefully failed
And I feel that I let my maternal grandfather down
But I liked Dickens's The Old Curiousity Shop
And found some unforgettable personifications;

Here is my analysis which The Washington Times published in 2009
And on second thoughts, I shall use these personifications and
Use them in present day context
A ‘sober clock' is present time for it puts a solemn
Face on the COVID-19 virus crisis
There is no end in sight;

A ‘ghostly inn', I imagine, are all the bed and breakfast places
In today's world for people have been asked to shut down businesses
And keep the essential ones open
And I think that all of these hot spots have an abandoned look about them;

A ‘spiritual head' in Canada and particularly, when compared with
The head of the country south of the border
Is that of PM Justin Trudeau whose government has done its best to
Prevent escalation of the crisis;

And even the ‘noble sun' which shines light on the world
Does have its dull days when its glow is lessened by the cloud
And an ongoing Freudian slip of mine is to compare Justin Trudeau to the sunshine
And I must make note of the fact that the editor of The Globe and Mail
Did laud Trudeau's handling of the crisis but did mention the rather unrelated
Thought of his in a speech that the COVID-19 crisis had shown to the world
That the democratic institution had won;

This seems rather like a farfetched thought to proclaim to the world
But we must forgive him for he has not said that the COVID-19 virus pandemic
Is not a global crisis as Pres. Donald Trump has
But in lieu of the fact that the PM of England, Boris Johnson,
Thought that he and the British could beat the corona virus
And ended up with the virus and I wish him the best of luck developing immunity,
I wish all of them and us well and let us pray that we, as a people, as a nation, as Canadians
Beat this crisis.
