Charles Starrett (Alias The Durango Kid) Poem by Juan Olivarez

Charles Starrett (Alias The Durango Kid)

Nobody else in the west was faster,
Pulling a forty five colt.
Dressed all in black he was the master,
When from his hideout he would bolt.

On Raider or sometimes Bullet,
He would ride to save the day.
Six guns blazing in a minute,
Riding full speed all the way.

Not the Ranger, or Gene, or Roy,
Could match Durango on the draw.
He was the idol of every boy,
Though he was right outside the law.

He never rode the owlhoot trail,
He always brought the bad guys in.
He protected women, children, and the frail,
Without a star made out of tin.

Both Smiley Burnette, and Cannonball,
helped Durango on his quest.
To be the hero loved by all,
To be the avenger of the west.

I love the West, and here you have showed, in part, why it's best; thank you.
