Chcha Nehru/ Kanchnar/ Jagannath Temple, Puri/Drunkard Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

Chcha Nehru/ Kanchnar/ Jagannath Temple, Puri/Drunkard

Chacha Nehru

Chacha Nehru
Playing with
The children,
Frisking and frolicking with,
Some on his shoulders
And some holding his hands
Going, strolling
In the park.

Kanchnar

It is almost the end February
And March is yet to come shortly
And by the way in between
You can see, come to feel and mark
The aura and aroma
Of the kanchnar blooms,
Bright pink and white-coloured
And speckled,
But sweetly-scented
Fragrancing the ways
All through the night
So sparkling in hue, dazzling with
Brilliant colour matching,
Bright pink and white and speckled.

The flower buds hanging onto
Blooming in clusters at twig ends
Looking lovelier and beautiful
And attractive and pleasing to the eyes
So radiant and sparkling
With a halo of their own
Bedecking the skies
And the pathway
So lustrous and luscious
Lifting to the world of
Fancy and imagination,
Kanchnar, the kanchnar buds
So bright pink and white and speckled.

Jagannath Temple, Puri

Grotesque gods and goddesses
Ogling
Carved from wood and puppet-like
Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra
So mythical and legendary
Ogling
From Jagannath Temple, Puri
Waiting for an outing
And the Rathyatra to follow.

Drunkard...

Drunkard, stand you
From the fallen state to ponder a bit,
To pause and think,
Life not a bottle of wine,
Life not a bottle,
Not a bottle of wine
Just think, think you,
Stand, stand you
And just, just think you,
Pause a bit and think you
This life not a bottle of wine,
Not a bottle of wine
To take to full
And fall flat on the roadway
To meet your end as thus,
You lying by the roadside
And babbling something!
