Circus Life Poem by Edmund V. Strolis

Rating: 5.0

Welcome ladies and gentlemen let the show now begin.
Follow the blue beamed spotlight to the center ring
There you will find our creation, a cultural darling thing
Look how it dances, genuflects, prances and sings

No that is no fun house mirror although it may sometimes seem so
That is the form of the twisted man, the star of this dazzling show
Watch wide eyed as he bends the truth and lets all reality go
Ignore his nasal protuberance as it grows and it grows and it grows!

Watch how he juggles generalities, zinging prejudiced banalities
A sketchy talent at best but you will love him nonetheless
As he plays on the minds of those that go through life blind
Leave your logic behind, this is no place for common sense

No boundaries, no rules, no need to bother with the tiny print
Listen to us we know best, we want everyone under our tent
Except of course those cretins in the ring off to our right
Not to worry boys and girls we will keep them out of sight

We will dip your mind in cotton candy and swirl it all about
We will weave a net across this land to save you from a fall
Or two nets if you desire, so don't forget to scream and shout
Now rise to your feet and pucker as we all sound the clarion call!

Great place to leave behind logic, common sense and a troubled mind. Although circuses carry with them a sadness, I always thought. Or is just my projection?

Well this circus life might well be a metaphor for life. Because sometimes life gets really absurd n we feel like we are being taken for a ride. I watched circus show when i was a child. It takes us away from reality but at the same time it brings us face to face with the reality. Thats the funny thing about circus. A beautifully depicted circus life with meaningful commentary on human condition.
