'Maiden will you come with me? '
said the gent dressed in blue.
She looked at the color of his eyes
and saw the same shaded hue.
' It would not be what I want to do.'
the maiden said in reply.
'For I would drown in brimming tears
and you would see me die..'
Then if I promise to keep my eyes closed
would it make a difference to you?
She thought about this proposal
and answered him anew.
'I'll come with you when the grass in morn
is moistened with the dew.'
She waited with her heart astir.
Her anticipation grew.
She never saw the gent again,
the gent with eyes of blue.
For his eyes were closed as he'd promised.
So she faded from his view.
