Coastal People Poem by Francis Duggan

Coastal People

'Tis only of bush poets that we ever hear
The jackaroos of the Outback who enjoy their beer,
The drovers and horse breakers of the wide brown land
The admiration of a Nation these people command.

Of the coastal people none do sing the praise
Of their love of the sea and of their coastal ways
Of the surfies and sea lovers poets seldom sing
And we seldom hear of the cool coastal Spring.

'Tis always of the brown lands and the great outback
And quaint little places of off the beaten track
That the Country singers seem to sing about
In their country songs of this Land of the South.

But for the coastal people there will come the time
When they will be honoured in song and in rhyme
The beautiful beach by the old coastal Town
And the beautiful women from the sun tanned and brown.
