Coins Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Coins

Coins

Mo and I were friends
-had habits that we shared

Each of us had a jar
-for Pennies, Nickels, Dimes
-Quarters, on and off
-Bills and notes, no, never

Salaries came in checks
-amounts were generous
-we enjoyed lavish life
-spent fast the dollars
-food, beer, restaurants
-with our food drank wine

That would last till mid-month
-then followed Andre's story
-of the girls and women in Russia:
- "In teenage and when young
-to find men, they go far
-as they add to the years
-they shrink the distance
-far older means sleep
-in own bed with a man
-ignoring shape and age…"

We approached the coins
-controlled spending
-ate pizza and pasta
-till beer too, said goodbye
-and remained the pennies
-with them went to movies
-bought popcorn and cola

Hey Courtney, this poem
-must be named after you
-because you paid coins
-of toonies and loonies
-and for change, Quarters,
-no more and nothing else…
