Color Blind Poem by Jay Loring

Color Blind

A man should be judged by the work he has done;
by the difference his life made to all or just one;
by the love in his heart and the smile on his face,
and for making the world a more beautiful place.

And if we were blind - like the pitch black of night,
then perhaps we would find we had much better sight.
For the eyes of the soul notice not the skin's hue,
but they look past the trappings to see the real you.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was thinking about how silly racism is and how inappropriate and inadequate it is to judge someone based simply on the color of their skin. I have begun to write a poem about this...here are two short stanzas.
