Make It Stop! ! (At Disney With The Family) Poem by Jay Loring

Make It Stop! ! (At Disney With The Family)

My senses bombarded
with way too much sound
The drums ever pounding
and shaking the ground

Ubiquitous music
just adds to the din.
Where one anthem stops,
yet another begins.

The faint rush of water,
the flashing of dreams,
the laughter, the chatter,
the crying, the screams.

The whirring and hum
of mechanical magic.
The fact I'm no longer
a child is just tragic.

For most of this stuff
just appeals to the young.
I'll admit, though, the ride
through Pandora was fun.

With nightfall the lights just
compete with the noise.
And LED lights line the
Way-too-bright toys.

And smells that assault
your olfactory nerve
come from too many venders
too eager to serve.

And not all the smells
are particularly pleasant.
The vague scent of urine
and trash's always present.

It's sensory overload
brought to new height.
And the fact that I paid for it,
just don't seem right.

To focus on one thing
for long is a chore.
There's always some new thing,
or two or three more…

That demands your attention
and invites you inside,
where you stand for two hours,
till they push you outside.

The kids seem to love it,
and can't wait to go
But children are damaged,
so, what do they know?

By the end of the journey
my poor brain is spent
But don't get me wrong
I'm still glad that I went

Though not for myself
but the family, you see.
So they could experience
the World of Disney!
