Common Guest - Poem by Amitava Sur

All the moments in our life
As they all are passing by,
No ways to stop them between,
Surely they will go by.

Simultaneously, I can see
How steadily he walks ahead,
Keeping his pace exactly
The same as of them.

The distance between me and him
Is reducing in every moment
Very boldly, he is walking ahead
And coming nearby me.

Hey - nobody can stop his coming
Just try out and tell me! !

This guest is none but The Death,
You love him or you hate! !

WOW! Was I caught unprepared! But that's your theme. Like most people I was not thinking about death, I thought the man was just a rude person, crowding other people on the sidewalk. And so I will confront death unprepared.
Hamlet says about death, THE READINESS IS ALL. He was right, and you are right to warn us.

Truly, passing of every second takes us close to death.A good presentation indeed. (Report) Reply

Death is an unwelcome and uninvited guest, dare we even call him a guest? As we age, death comes closer, waiting for his moment to snatch our lives from us. There is no way of stopping his progress, when he comes there is no way to fight him or say no. All of us will succumb to his presence in the end. Death is life's ultimate truth.
An excellent portrayal of our final companion, Amitava, as he takes us away from those we love in life. Thank you for sharing this poem, Amitava. You may have a 10 +. RoseAnn

Death is a sure guest! Whether we welcome him or not is never a matter of concern for him! When his time is due, he will surely come and no force on Earth can stop him! A poem asserting the unquestioned truth of life! (Report) Reply

Yes. Death is our constant companion and is closing in on us day by day and inch by inch. (Report) Reply
