Compassion Poem by Kwai Chee Low

Compassion

Compassion, so precious a gift
Incomparable
to all earthly things
So transient and dismally brief

Compassion, a myriad of tears
Seeing
the hungry, desolate and grieving
A wish to share their pain and fears

Compassion, an opening of the heart
So warm
the soft flow of love
Boundless loving kindness as a start

Compassion, a feeling without boundaries
Creed or color
Just the urge to help
Allay their pain and agonies

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
We have light and we have darkness; light drives out the darkness. In a similar vein there is compassion and there is hatred; compassion overcomes hatred. For where there is compassion, hatred cannot take birth.

I edited and added an additional stanza to the poem, to improve the flow and to give it more substance.

They certainly do. Compassion and unconditional love go hand in hand. Thank you, Sekharan.
