Compromise Poem by Linda Engwall

Compromise

You don’t ever get everything
So what are the spaces
That you compromise on
What do you need to move forward

Those magical words spoken
To feed your soul
With your daily coffee
The nourishment needed

We can never be a perfect match
It is not possible
Deciding
Where we concede
To where we can not
Compromise ourselves
Our needs our desires
Dreams to pursue

What is necessary for us to be
With another connected
To stop judging what it should be
To accepting what it is

Where is the compromise
To bring the fulfillment

Why so unsure
Can it only mean
To accept the promise you made so long ago
And not continue to search for the hope of more

Compassion for the roads traveled
That led us to this place
Together yet separate
Finally one
