Concern Poem by Bishnupada Sethi

Concern

Gathering some strength,
Trudging up through
The convoluted stairway
She approached quietly
Where I was resting for a while.

Taking a place on the wooden cot
Kept nearby,
She gasped for deep breath.
Gaining composure few minutes later
She kept her feeble hand upon me.
I did notice the marks of ravages
Time has left upon her skin.

‘Do you know
I hardly sleep these days? '
To which I promptly asked-
If anything was wrong,
If there were symptoms of illness!
We could consult the best of physicians.

Dropping long and sharp breath
‘I wonder how you will live on'
She uttered, as if she had some answers,
Having known me so well
Over the gone by years.

On further probing
No clues were given.
She appeared to know
Nothing would change
My situation for better.

Today I raise my eyes
Over the horizon
And look at the distant sky.
I ponder what would happen
As my worldly predicament
Refuses to abate!
