Cowboy Lessons Poem by norman hale

Cowboy Lessons

Three old cowboys
Was sittin playin some poker
When through the bar doors,
came this funny lookin joker

He said 'You don't know me
But I'm from the 'the land down under'
The one we call australia
Where the kangaroos make it thunder'

'I'm headed out west
To learn your cowboy ways
And under your star lit nights
I'll be spendin the rest of my days'

About then ol ev spoke up, and said
'Boy, you don't even have a clue!
Why! every young lad has thought that
You just sound like another fool'

Then john spoke up and said
'Boy there are creatures out there man has never seen
There are wolves, and coyotes, bears and lions
You will never make it, actin all crazy and green

Roy then spoke up and said
'Come on over here boy, and play some poker
It helps to pass the time away
Instead of actin like some crazy joker

Why, there are indians out there
That would skin you alive
Just for the pleasure of it
It is something they just thrive! '

The lad spoke up and said
'You boys, are givin me a scare
You are telling me of things
Of that, I was never aware

Bartender, bring me some whiskey
I need it to calm me down
I felt so wild and crazy
Now it's more like a circus clown! '

Ev said 'Let this be a lesson, boy
Life is not just a race
If you fall in this neck of the woods
It might not be mud on your face'
