Crimes Of You, I Continue To Commit Poem by Becca Bell

Crimes Of You, I Continue To Commit

Is it a crime to love you?
Is it wrong?
Is it against the law?
If so, arrest me, here and now
Take me
Restrain me in your own contempt
This way, everyone will know
The little children and their mommies will watch me ride away
Hand-cuffed in the back of a cop car.
You'll be embarrassed, ashamed,
Afraid, in denial, sure.
What will I be?
Proud, if anything.
Proud to say it, proud to show it, proud to be whisked away for it.
But I'm not that brave
So let's just skip this cop car business and everybody finding out
Skip ahead to the part where I sit alone in a jail cell
For different reasons.
This is my current state of being.
