Inquiry Poem by Becca Bell

Inquiry

What is your current state of mind?
I'd really love to know
Please, enlighten me.
You say you tell me everything
My dear, you give me nothing at all
You telling me nothing says everything in the world
Words are unnecessary, and blindly bland
Please, be bold.
Fear not my hesitation or rebuff.
I would have nothing to hide if you would just reciprocate.
I'm waiting on your recompense,
I beg, on my sore knees.
There's no use in my rebut if you say nothing in return
I'm speaking for argument's sake alone
Please tell me, am I wasting my breath? My time? My energy?
It would do us both well if you would use some of your own
Please, just see how much I care
I put everything into you
Your very presence is fed by my naivety
Spare me, if nothing else
For, at this point
You have me shamelessly shameful
And shamefully shameless
On my knees, I beg.
